Parent and Social Policy Crusader Joins the Oversight Committee

With a passion for transparency and a keen eye for detail, Osvaldo Avila is on a mission to ensure that every penny invested in the Long Beach Unified School District is used wisely. As a devoted parent of two bright young minds within the district, Osvaldo understands the critical importance of fair allocation and responsible spending when it comes to taxpayer funds.

Driven by a desire to play an active role in shaping the future of his children's education, Osvaldo seized the opportunity to join the Citizens' Oversight Committee. A Committee composed of seven individuals appointed by the LBUSD Board of Education, Osvaldo represents the community-at-large, advocating for the efficient and equitable use of bond funds to benefit schools, teachers, and students alike.

But Osvaldo's dedication to educational excellence extends far beyond his role on the Oversight Committee. Armed with a background in social policy research, he brings a unique blend of analytical prowess and passion for community advocacy to the table.

Away from the boardroom, Osvaldo is a familiar face within the LBUSD community. From his days as Vice President of the Webster Elementary Parent Teacher Organization to his active involvement in the School Site Council and English Learner Advisory Committee, he's been a steadfast champion for educational equity at every turn.

With Osvaldo Avila a part of the charge, LBUSD's commitment to transparency, accountability, and educational excellence has never been stronger. His efforts serve as an inspiring reminder that, when it comes to shaping the future of our children, every voice—and every vote—truly matters.
